My Experience at © Samuel Koranteng-Pipim's Seminar in Japan 1999

This web page was created in response to a seminar held by © Samuel Koranteng-Pipim, Ph.D from November 19-22, 1999.

When i heard that © Samuel Koranteng-Pipim, Ph.D was going to be the guest speaker i started trying to find information about the man and his teachings. I saw his name on a list as a "strong conservative" which filled my heart with anticipation. Seventh-Day Adventist's as a church have nearly lost sight of God's law, and anyone who tries to uplift God's commands is a faithful warrior for God's cause.

While his main focus for the seminar was on the law, and the need to keep ALL the law, there were several points that didn't correspond to the "law and the testimony".

1. He doesn't seem to understand that the God in the old testament and the God of the new testament is the same God. Ie: The 10 commandments say not to kill, but God commanded the Israelites to kill. When asked about this, he made a weak statement that God doesn't now have a nation that he controls directly, so while killing is still a sin, it isn't a crime. When this train of thought is carried thru this to its conclusion what happens? - "God doesn't kill".

What was the first lie that Satan told Eve? "You shall not surely die." Of course God kills. It's been said by many Christians who should be more knowledgeable, that the God of the old testament is "a God of force, power, punishment and killing", while the God of the new testament is "loving, forgiving, friendly". I'm not sure how this thinking came about, but the God of the old testament who loves humans so much that he CREATED them, told them how to build an ark to escape the flood, sent his angels to drag Lot out of Sodom to save him, brought a whole nation of slaves out of the world's mightiest country, and blessed the Israelites in numerous ways is also the same God who in the new testament made a whip and drove out all the bad people from the temple, said he would come again and "all the tribes of the earth would mourn", will kill all the wicked by the breath of his mouth etc. etc.

What i'm trying to show is that God doesn't change. Yes, his methods are different in different situations to meet different people, but these are all aspects of the SAME God. Yes God DOES KILL. God will destroy sin and sinners in the last act of the great controversy. And no, it isn't just God revealing himself and the sin inside the sinners burn them up.

Here's a quote from the 1858 Great Controversy chapter 41: "Satan rushes into the midst, and tries to stir up the multitude to action. But fire from God out of heaven is rained upon them, and the great men, and the mighty men, and the noble, and poor and miserable men, are all consumed together. I saw that some were quickly destroyed, while others suffered longer. They were punished according to the deeds done in the body. Some were many days consuming, and just as long as there was a portion of them unconsumed, all the sense of suffering was there. Said the angel, The worm of life shall not die; their fire shall not be quenched as long as there is the least particle for it to prey upon."

The point of the matter is that God HATES SIN. No particle of it will last in the entire universe after Satan is finally burned up. Read the 41st chapter of the 1858 Great Controversy Between Christ and His Angels and Satan and His Angels.

2. I haven't thought this one out much yet, but his teaching may lead to the conclusion of "we're all holy".

3. He's good at taking part of a Bible or Spirit of Prophecy quote, acknowledging objections to it, and then going ahead anyway with his own out-of-place interpretation. Twisting. For example, in his handout titled Making the Tough Ethical Decisions: Reflections from the Writings of Ellen G. White he says in the section called Nothing But the Truth: What About Lying for a Just Cause? "Jer. 48:10  Cursed is he who does the work of the Lord deceitfully". He uses this part of the text to show that bribing customs officials to smuggle Bibles into countries is wrong, but then the last part of the text "and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood." is of course convieniently dropped off as that doesn't fit his teaching of "no killing". And -- "Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old." Isaiah 43:18 was turned into a sermon on how we should forget EVERYTHING in the past!!!!?? No, he didn't show that this text is for those in the new earth. He did bring up Ellen White's quote about "the only fear we have for the future is forgetting the past". He made some little comment about it trying to show he believed it, and then went on with his sermon. Very smooth and convincing to those who don't know their Bible and Spirit of Prophecy!

Yes, his presentation was mostly VERY good. I believe in his heart he wants to do right, and that he really does want to follow God. He showed how we need to keep the law in ALL situations and that God will bless us for that. Yes, YES, a thousand times YES! But it's also important to point out errors where errors are made and preached as truth.

And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us. Deuteronomy 6:25

May God bless his people as they continue to study and follow him wherever he goes.

(Why the "©"? I don't know, but it appears that way on all papers i've seen published by him, so it seems to be part of his name...)

Update: Years later it was found out that Pipim was doing sexual sins, and he got disfellowshipped.
